Reliance Jio chairman Akash Ambani unveiled JioPC on August 29 at Reliance Industries’ annual general meeting (AGM). The new service turns the Jio set-top box into a cloud-based personal computer that can be used on any screen or television. Ambani said the aim of JioPC is not just to provide a computer but to give people access to AI-ready power at low cost. He described it as a “leap forward” that could help households, classrooms, and small businesses across India.

What is JioPC?

JioPC allows users to connect a keyboard and mouse to their Jio set-top box and instantly transform their television into a computer. All the processing power, storage, and updates are managed in Jio’s cloud servers. This removes the need for expensive laptops or desktops. Users do not have to worry about hardware upgrades, viruses, or outdated software since everything is updated automatically in the cloud.

Ambani said, “JioPC is that revolutionary product that transforms your TV, or any other screen, into a full-featured, AI-ready computer. You simply pay for what you use. Because JioPC lives in the cloud, it is always up-to-date and secure, and you can remotely upgrade your memory, storage, and computing power based on your growing needs.”

Features of JioPC

The service is powered by Ubuntu (Linux), a secure and efficient open-source operating system. It comes preloaded with LibreOffice for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. Users can also access Microsoft Office through the web browser.

Each subscription includes:

  • Quad-core processor
  • 8GB RAM
  • 100GB storage
  • Unlimited usage

The system is designed for daily tasks like browsing, designing, programming, online classes, and productivity apps. Because it is cloud-based, storage and performance can be scaled easily.

Pricing and Plans

Reliance Jio is offering JioPC as a subscription service instead of selling hardware. The service is being rolled out initially via invitations, with a free trial for early adopters.

The subscription plans are

  • 1-month plan: Rs 599 (unlimited usage)
  • 2-month plan: Rs 999 (unlimited usage)
  • 6 months + 2 months free: Rs 2,499 (unlimited usage)
  • 12 months + 3 months free: Rs 4,599 (unlimited usage)

This pricing model keeps upfront costs low and makes computing more affordable for families, students, and professionals.

How to Use JioPC

To use JioPC, users need a Jio set-top box, a stable internet connection, and a USB- or Bluetooth-enabled keyboard and mouse.

Steps to start:

  1. Turn on the TV and Jio set-top box, then open the JioPC app from the apps section.
  2. Connect the keyboard and mouse.
  3. Set up a JioPC account by entering details.
  4. Select Launch Now to access the virtual desktop.

With JioPC, Reliance Jio hopes to expand access to affordable computing, using its large telecom base and 5G network investments to make AI-ready tools available to millions of users.
