Pune: Panic gripped Baner on Friday morning after a man allegedly tried to shoot a woman outside her workplace following a relationship dispute. The woman, an MBA student interning at a private firm in Veerbhadranagar, escaped unhurt after the accused’s firearm malfunctioned.

Police identified the suspect as Gaurav Naidu, a resident of Pimpri Chinchwad. According to officials, Naidu followed the woman from her home in Pimple Saudagar and confronted her near the office premises around 10.30 am. Disguised as a delivery agent, he attempted to speak with her, but when she refused, he pulled out a pistol and aimed at her. The weapon misfired, preventing the bullet from being discharged.

The woman raised an alarm, drawing the attention of security guards and employees nearby. Naidu fled the spot on his two-wheeler, leaving behind a live cartridge. A First Information Report (FIR) was later filed with Baner police.

Investigators said the two had been in a relationship earlier, which the woman had ended. Naidu allegedly began stalking her, leading to the violent confrontation. Police also confirmed that he has a previous criminal record, including an attempted murder case registered in Pimpri Chinchwad.

Senior officers stated that Naidu is on the run and has been booked for attempted murder. CCTV footage from the area is being examined to trace his movements.
