Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event to unveil iPhone 17 series, including the slim new iPhone 17 Air, with Pro models set to cross new price milestones
Apple has confirmed that it will launch the iPhone 17 series in India on 9 September 2025, at its much-awaited “Awe Dropping” event. The lineup will feature four models — the iPhone 17, the all-new iPhone 17 Air, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Pre-orders are expected to open on 12 September, with official sales beginning from 19 September.
US pricing outlook
Fresh estimates from JP Morgan analyst Samik Chatterjee suggest that most models will retain familiar pricing in the US, with the exception of the Pro model:
- iPhone 17: $799 (unchanged from iPhone 16)
- iPhone 17 Air: $899–$949 (slightly above the 16 Plus)
- iPhone 17 Pro: $1,099 (up $100, but starting with 256GB storage instead of 128GB)
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: Pricing details yet to be confirmed, but expected to remain Apple’s most premium device
The shift to 256GB as the base storage for the Pro line is seen as a major reason behind the price bump. If correct, this would be the first time since the iPhone X (2017) that Apple’s Pro model surpasses the $999 threshold in the US.
India pricing expectations
Industry watchers forecast steeper tags in India, reflecting Apple’s continued premium strategy:
- iPhone 17: Rs. 79,990
- iPhone 17 Air: Rs. 99,990
- iPhone 17 Pro: Rs. 1,24,990
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: Rs. 1,64,990
At these levels, the Pro Max could become one of the most expensive iPhones ever sold in India.

Spotlight on the iPhone 17 Air
The standout in this year’s lineup is expected to be the iPhone 17 Air, marketed as Apple’s slimmest and lightest iPhone to date. Designed as a replacement for the Plus variant, it combines portability with flagship performance, justifying its slight premium.
What to expect at the event
The September 9 event will also showcase Apple’s other hardware refreshes. But for iPhone buyers, the focus will be on whether the design overhauls and performance upgrades of the iPhone 17 series can justify the higher costs, particularly in markets like India where Apple faces tough competition from Android rivals in the premium segment.
