Pune: Draft Ward Hearing For PMC Ends, 5,922 Objections Filed, Only 828 Citizens Participate
Pune, September 13, 2025: The public hearing on Pune’s draft ward structure concluded on Friday with 5,922 objections recorded, but only 828 citizens attending to present their views.
The two-day hearing was held at Balgandharva Auditorium under the supervision of state government representative and additional chief secretary of general administration, V Radha.
Pune municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, additional commissioner Omprakash Diwate, and deputy commissioner of the election cell Prasad Katkar were also present. Officials confirmed that a detailed report will soon be submitted to the state government.
Ward number 34 received the highest number of objections at 2,137, yet only 77 residents attended the hearing. Many objections highlighted concerns over ward boundaries not aligning with natural dividers such as rivers, highways, and waterbodies. Citizens also raised issues regarding slum areas being split into multiple wards, creating complications in representation.
For the upcoming civic elections, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will consist of 41 wards represented by 165 corporators. Of these, 40 wards will elect four corporators each, while Ambegaon–Katraj ward, due to its higher population, will elect five corporators. In the previous term, the PMC had 162 corporators.
