Pune Police Bust Illegal Cannabis Factory in Ganj Peth; Woman Arrested
Pune police recently uncovered a large-scale illegal cannabis manufacturing operation in Ganj Peth, resulting in the arrest of a local woman. Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Khadak Police Station raided a premises behind Trishul Mitra Mandal where the production was taking place. During the search, police seized 351 kilograms of cannabis powder stored in sacks and 280 cannabis pills weighing around 24 kilograms, with an estimated value of over ₹98,000.
Along with the drugs, several machines, stoves, grinders, weighing scales, utensils, and a refrigerator used in the production and storage of these substances were confiscated. Rohini Chavan, a resident of Ganj Peth, was found manufacturing cannabis products, including powder and pills, in a room adjacent to her home. She was caught near her residence carrying cannabis pills in plastic bags, which led to a further search that revealed the secret manufacturing unit.
Authorities confirmed that Rohini did not possess any legal license for producing or distributing cannabis-based substances. All seized items have been sent for forensic analysis as investigations continue. The successful raid came after constable Ashish Chavan filed a formal complaint based on intelligence inputs, marking a significant step by Pune police to crack down on illegal drug activities in the city.
