Young officer’s journey from Pune classrooms to Republic Day parade to military training inspires pride for family and nation
Pune: Shubhankar Sanjeev Naidu, a resident of old Sangvi, has been commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army, bringing immense pride to his family and the country. He recently completed his training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai, where he formally received his commission.
Shubhankar completed his early schooling (Class 1 to 10) at Bharati Vidya Bhavan, Senapati Bapat Road, Pune, followed by Class 12 in Science at Bhonsala Military School, Nagpur. Later, while pursuing graduation at Garware College, Pune, he actively participated in the NCC. In 2020, he was selected as Maharashtra’s Best Cadet and proudly led the state contingent at the Republic Day Parade on Delhi’s Rajpath.
A bright student, Shubhankar excelled not only in academics but also in sports. He achieved distinction in chess at school level and won a gold medal in district-level boxing during Class 12, representing Nagpur.
His inspiration to serve the nation was rooted in childhood visits to his grandparents’ home near NDA Khadakwasla. Accompanying his grandmother to the academy campus, the discipline and atmosphere deeply impressed him. By the time he was in Class 6, Shubhankar had resolved to become an Army officer. His passion was nurtured through reading books and watching documentaries on the Indian Army. His father, Sanjeev Raju Naidu, who works at the Ammunition Factory, Khadki, often took him to Factory Day exhibitions, further fueling his interest. His mother, Neelima Naidu, is a teacher at Arvind Education Society, Juni Sangvi. His younger brother, Abhinav Naidu, a Class 12 student, has also pledged to serve the nation.
Guided by the training and mentorship of Anis Kuttie Sir of Anis Defence Academy, Shubhankar successfully completed his officer training at OTA, Chennai. Known for his love of biking, trekking, and reading, he now embarks on a new journey of military service.
His selection and commissioning have been widely appreciated, and his family, teachers, and community have expressed immense joy and pride in his achievement.
