Pune, September 15: Authorities have announced an increase in water discharge from Khadakwasla, Panshet, and Varasgaon dams into the Mutha river from Monday morning, September 15. Residents living along the riverbanks have been urged to remain alert as the discharge may further change depending on rainfall.

At Khadakwasla Dam, the current discharge of 7,677 cusecs has been raised to 10,611 cusecs from 9:00 am. Officials have cautioned that the flow may be altered as per water inflow and rainfall conditions.

At Panshet Dam, the total discharge has been increased from 1,720 cusecs to 2,840 cusecs—with 2,240 cusecs being released through the spillway and another 600 cusecs through the power generation plant.

Meanwhile, Varasgaon Dam has also increased its release to 3,576 cusecs, including 2,976 cusecs via the spillway and 600 cusecs through power generation.

The notices were issued by Mohan Shantaram Bhadane, Sub-Divisional Engineer, Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division, Swargate, Pune. Officials have reiterated that water release levels may be increased or decreased depending on rainfall intensity and inflow.

Civic authorities have appealed to citizens, especially those residing near riverbanks and low-lying areas, to stay cautious and avoid venturing close to the river.
