Pune: Residents Raise Alarm Over Dark, Unsafe Stretch At Shankarsheth Road In Swargate
Pune, September 15, 2025: Residents of Shankarsheth Road and Ekbote Colony in Swargate have expressed deep concern over persistent civic and safety issues, alleging negligence by authorities despite repeated complaints for more than a year.
According to members of the Kondhwa Development Forum, streetlights along this high-traffic stretch remain dysfunctional, leaving the entire road in darkness every evening. Despite being a major highway route, the area reportedly sees no regular police patrolling.
Taking advantage of the dark corners, anti-social activities such as alcohol consumption and drug use are said to be rampant in and around parked rickshaws, tempos, and behind office premises. Local residents claim they have repeatedly informed the police, but no concrete action has been taken so far.
“It is extremely frustrating that authorities have ignored our complaints for over a year. Are they waiting for a serious accident or crime to happen before acting? The safety of ordinary citizens is your responsibility,” said Atul Jain of the Kondhwa Development Forum.
Residents are now demanding urgent intervention from both the police and civic bodies to restore proper street lighting, initiate regular patrolling, and curb illegal activities in the area.
