Pune: Residents of Vedanta Society in Wakad Raise Alarm Over Contaminated Water Supply
Wakad, Pune – September 18, 2025:
Residents of Vedanta Society, a prominent residential complex in Wakad comprising 344 flats and housing over 1,200 people—mostly IT professionals—are facing a serious public health concern due to the continuous supply of muddy and contaminated water from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)
The issue has persisted for several days, prompting widespread concern among families living in the society. Residents report that the water is visibly muddy which unsafe for drinking, cooking, and even bathing.
The Vedanta Society Management Committee chairman Dr Somnath Dhonde has repeatedly approached the PCMC Water Supply Department, urging immediate action to resolve the issue. However, despite raising formal complaints and following up diligently, no effective resolution has been implemented.
“This is not just an inconvenience—it’s a health hazard,” said Sumant Deshpande Resident of Vedanta society . “Many residents are having stomach issues, and other waterborne symptoms. It’s extremely disappointing that our concerns are not being treated with urgency by the authorities.”
The society is now demanding immediate intervention from Top PCMC officials to ensure clean and safe drinking water is restored without further delay.
Health and civic experts warn that prolonged exposure to contaminated water can lead to serious health problems, especially among children and the elderly.
Vedanta Management Committee urge PCMC Authorities to inspect the supply pipelines, conduct water quality testing, and provide a clear timeline for the resolution of the issue.
