Pune’s cinema enthusiasts are in for a special treat as the city gears up for the sixth edition of the Mumba International Film Festival, set to run from September 24 to 28. Organized by the Mumba Film Foundation, the festival will showcase 105 films from 33 countries, and all screenings will be free of charge.

At a press briefing earlier this week, festival organizer Jay Bhosale announced the details of the event, joined by coordinators Virendra Chitraw and Abhishek Avchar, secretary Vishwas Shenbeker, and representatives from Marathwada College. The official festival logo was also unveiled during the session.

Screenings will take place at three venues:

Balwadkar
  • National Film Archive of India (NFAI), Law College Road
  • Pandit Nehru Auditorium
  • Marathwada Mitra Mandal’s Commerce College

The festival will open on September 24 at 10 AM with an inauguration ceremony at NFAI, led by veteran actor Dr. Mohan Agashe. The closing ceremony and awards presentation will be held on September 28 at 3 PM.

Beyond film screenings, the festival will also feature masterclasses and open dialogues with directors, producers, and short-film creators, offering students and aspiring professionals an opportunity to learn directly from industry experts.

One of the festival’s key goals is to highlight the importance of preserving cinematic heritage, especially rare and historical films, documentaries, and short features. Organizers stressed the role of such efforts in educating future generations of filmmakers about film preservation and production.

This year, the festival attracted over 1,400 submissions worldwide, from countries including the United States, France, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Italy, the UK, Brazil, Spain, Russia, Canada, Argentina, Iran, Turkey, Israel, Australia, Indonesia, and India. Out of these, 105 films have been carefully selected — including 25 feature films and more than 75 short films, documentaries, and animated works.

For Pune’s movie lovers, this promises to be five days of global cinema, culture, and creativity — all for free.
