Pune: NCP SP Protests Alleged Injustice, Says Criminals Escape While Sonam Wangchuk Faces Arrest
Pune, September 30, 2025 – The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) has strongly protested against what it calls a growing injustice in India, claiming that while criminals like Nilesh Ghaywal are allegedly fleeing abroad, dedicated patriots like Sonam Wangchuk are being jailed. The protest was led by Pune City President Prashant Jagtap at Bal Gandharva Rangmandir Chowk.
The party criticized the government, alleging that Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the central government allowed notorious criminal Nilesh Ghaywal, accused of extortion, robbery, kidnapping, murder, and shooting, to escape to London with fake documents. Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk, a Magasaysay awardee known for his educational and defense contributions in Ladakh, has been detained under stringent national security laws.
Sonam Wangchuk has been working in the harsh conditions of Ladakh to educate underprivileged students and has designed advanced tents for Indian soldiers, earning him national and international recognition. He recently exposed alleged Chinese land encroachments in Ladakh and criticized the government, which the party claims led to his imprisonment in Jodhpur.
The NCP called on both the Maharashtra and Central Home Ministers to investigate how criminals are allegedly being helped to flee while patriots are punished. Party leaders demanded immediate action against criminals and the release of Sonam Wangchuk from prison.
The protest at Bal Gandharva Rangmandir Chowk was attended by senior party leaders including Uday Mahale, Anita Pawar, Rameez Sayyed, Kishor Kamble, Hemant Badhe, Shailendra Belhekar, Prasad Kodre, Pappu Gholap, Asif Sheikh, Dr. Shashikant Kadam, Yousuf Sheikh, Rupali Shelar, Narensh Pagdalu, Ganesh Nalawade, and a large number of party workers. The NCP described the current situation in Maharashtra and India as highly concerning for the nation’s democracy.
