Pune, September 30, 2025 – Amidst the ongoing Senate meeting at Savitribai Phule Pune University, students and organization representatives came together between 2 and 3 pm to stage a peaceful poster demonstration in the main building area, highlighting pressing student concerns.

The issues raised during the demonstration included:

1. Every deserving student admitted to the university should be provided hostel accommodation.

2. Immediate cancellation of the additional fee hike imposed by the university administration.

3. A thorough investigation into irregularities in MBA admissions at the Department of Management Science (PUMBA) and strict action against the guilty.

4. Loan waivers for farmers in light of the ongoing drought.

5. Assertion of students’ constitutional rights to raise voices, organize protests, marches, and hunger strikes without interference.

The demonstration, conducted peacefully and constitutionally, was coordinated with the university’s security department and Chaturshrungi Police Station. Subsequently, Senate member Prof. Harsh Gaikwad met the student and organization representatives at the gate to discuss these issues in detail and assured that their concerns would be voiced during the ongoing assembly.

Addressing the students, the Senate member clarified that claims linking the university’s ranking decline to student protests are completely baseless. He emphasized that rankings depend on specific criteria, which the university administration must focus on, rather than blaming activism.

Students, including Abhishek Shelar, actively participated in the event.

Rahul Sasane, President of the University Students Grievance Action Committee, stated, “Raising our voices through protests and demonstrations is our constitutional right. Ranking declines are due to administrative inefficiency, not activism. We will continue to fight for the welfare of students and the university.”
