BCCI raises strong objection at ACC AGM after Indian team’s victory goes without a trophy handover.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed strong objection to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for failing to award India the Asia Cup 2025 winner’s trophy, even days after the final. At the ACC’s Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday (September 30), the issue sparked a major confrontation, but ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, also Pakistan’s Home Minister and PCB Chairman reportedly stood firm on his refusal to hand over the silverware.

The controversy began on Sunday when the Indian team declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi after their win, citing his position as a Pakistani minister. The trophy has since remained at the ACC office, leaving the victorious Indian squad without the symbolic prize.

According to reports, Naqvi did not even congratulate the Indian contingent at first, and only offered formal praise for Suryakumar Yadav’s invincible team after being pressed by BCCI’s Ashish Shelar. The BCCI delegation, led by vice-president Rajiv Shukla and Shelar, demanded clarity on the missing trophy but received no resolution. A final decision may now be taken collectively by the ACC’s Test-playing members.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply in recent weeks following the Pahalgam terror attack, where Pakistan-backed militants killed 26 Indian tourists. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor to target terrorist hideouts across the border, further heightening hostility. The strained relations spilled over into cricket, with the Indian players also avoiding handshakes with their Pakistani counterparts during the tournament.

Despite the trophy snub, celebrations among Indian players carried on in style. Captain Suryakumar Yadav humorously mimicked Rohit Sharma’s famous slow walk from the 2024 T20 World Cup final while carrying an “imaginary” trophy. The squad joined in with mock trophy lifts for fans and cameras before continuing their jubilant celebrations in the dressing room.
