Pune: India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has taken a major step to improve his long-term fitness by shifting his training base from Mumbai to Bengaluru. The move is aimed at helping him better manage recurring injuries and prolong his international cricket career.
Unlike most centrally contracted Indian cricketers, who visit the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (COE) mainly for rehabilitation, fitness tests or national camps, Pandya will now train there full-time whenever he is not on national, IPL or domestic duty.

The decision comes after injuries repeatedly disrupted his career in recent years. He missed India’s ODI series against Afghanistan and was later ruled out of the England tour following a quadriceps injury suffered during rehabilitation. His latest move reflects his determination to remain fit for India’s future white-ball campaigns, including the 2027 ODI World Cup.
According to reports, Pandya has rented a home on the outskirts of Bengaluru, close to the Centre of Excellence, to reduce travel time and gain easier access to world-class sports science facilities. The Centre provides advanced injury management, recovery programmes, fitness monitoring and specialised cricket training under one roof.
Reports also suggest that Pandya plans to have his own physiotherapist and personal strength and conditioning coach to complement the support available at the Centre. Even during batting practice, he is said to personally arrange and pay for net bowlers whenever required.
The move is considered unique in Indian cricket as very few players have made the Centre of Excellence their permanent training base. By staying close to the facility, Pandya hopes to maintain a consistent fitness routine and minimise the risk of recurring injuries that have affected his availability over the past few seasons.
The all-rounder is currently continuing his rehabilitation and is expected to resume training at the Centre after a brief personal break. If successful, his decision could become a model for other elite cricketers looking to balance heavy workloads with long-term fitness.
Cricket experts believe that with modern sports science playing an increasingly important role, Pandya’s proactive approach may help him remain a key member of India’s white-ball setup for several more years.
