CNG Price Hiked by ₹1 in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Industrial Hubs
Pune, October 3, 2025: Commuters in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and adjoining industrial hubs such as Chakan, Talegaon, and Hinjawadi will have to shell out more for CNG from tonight. With effect from midnight of October 2, the retail selling price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has been increased by ₹1 per kg, bringing the new price to ₹90.75 per kg, inclusive of taxes.
Distributors attributed the hike to rising input costs of natural gas used in the CNG segment. Despite the increase, they highlighted that CNG remains considerably more economical compared to conventional fuels. Currently, petrol is retailing at ₹103.99 per litre and diesel at ₹90.52 per litre in Pune.
According to estimates, CNG passenger cars continue to save nearly 47% in comparison with petrol-driven vehicles and around 24% compared with diesel. For autorickshaws, the savings stand at about 25%. Notably, the price of Domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) supplied to households remains unchanged.
The latest price adjustment comes against the backdrop of global crude oil market volatility and exchange rate fluctuations. Industry observers note that policy measures, such as the Union government’s increase in excise duty on fuels earlier this year and Maharashtra’s 1% hike in vehicle tax on CNG and LNG vehicles, have also contributed to cost pressures.
