Pune, October 6, 2025: Hundreds of residents and farmers took to the streets of Mahalunge on Monday to protest what they described as the apathy of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) toward local civic issues. Demonstrators highlighted persistent problems, including stalled town planning projects, unfulfilled promises, and lack of proper infrastructure development.

The protest was led by local activist Jayesh Sanjay Murkute, who accused authorities of allowing corruption to stall the Mahalunge Town Planning Scheme, which was proposed nearly a decade ago to develop the area into a modern “Hi-Tech City.” Murkute alleged that farmers’ lands were being locked up to benefit certain builder lobbies, leaving locals without fair compensation and voicing frustration over delayed civic amenities.

“Residents have been waiting for years while basic services remain neglected,” Murkute said. “This protest is a call to PMRDA and PMC to act responsibly and address our grievances. We demand transparency and justice for all affected families.”

Protestors marched through main roads, carrying placards highlighting issues like water shortages, incomplete road works, and delayed approvals in town planning. Murkute emphasized the need for coordination between PMC, PWD, and PMRDA to ensure that stalled projects resume with citizen involvement.

“This is only the first step in our fight. We will not stop until justice is delivered to the farmers and residents who have been misled for years,” Murkute added, appealing for immediate government intervention.

The demonstration concluded peacefully, but residents warned of larger mobilizations if authorities fail to respond promptly to their demands for timely development, compensation, and improved civic services.
