Pune: PMPML Transforms Scrap Bus Into Free Public Library Near Fergusson College
Pune, October 8, 2025: In a creative step towards promoting reading culture and sustainability, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has launched a free public library made from a scrap bus under the concept “From Waste to Worth” and “Vachal Tar Vachal” (Read and You Will Succeed). The initiative was inaugurated near Fergusson College by MLA Siddharth Shirole and PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Pankaj Deore.
The initiative aims to rekindle the joy of reading among citizens and students by offering a space where people can read a variety of books free of cost. MLA Siddharth Shirole contributed around 250 books on subjects including education, religion, history, and inspiration to support the cause.
Speaking at the event, MLA Shirole praised the PMPML’s innovative approach, stating that such initiatives encourage the younger generation to turn towards reading instead of spending excessive time online.
PMPML Chairman Pankaj Devre urged Pune residents to make use of the facility and donate more books to expand the collection.
The inauguration was attended by CEO Asha Raut, Fergusson College Principal Sham Mude, Chief Transport Manager Satish Gawhane, Adranet’s Kiran Rahane, and several PMPML officials.
In a noteworthy addition, Adranet announced that the library bus will also offer free Wi-Fi access, enhancing the reading experience for visitors.
