Pune: 94% Farmers Agree to Land Acquisition For Purandar Airport; Rehabilitation To Be Done Within Proposed Aerocity
Pune, October 9, 2025: As the Navi Mumbai Airport nears completion, attention has turned to Pune’s long-awaited Purandar Airport project. District Collector Jitendra Dudi announced that nearly 94% of farmers have given their consent for land acquisition, marking a major breakthrough for the project. The remaining 5–6% of farmers are being persuaded to come on board, he added.
Land measurement for the project is about 60% complete and expected to be finalized by October 16–17. The project affects seven villages in the Purandar area, which had initially opposed it. However, after several rounds of discussions, the administration has successfully addressed the concerns of the villagers.
According to officials, farmers will not be displaced from their native villages. Instead, they will be rehabilitated within the proposed Aerocity zone, where land and housing will be allocated to them based on their current holdings.
This approach has eased earlier fears among farmers about losing their homes and farmlands. Collector Dudi emphasized that the initiative will preserve local employment and economic stability. With land acquisition entering its final stage, the next phase will determine compensation amounts, ensuring that local farmers receive fair benefits.
The Purandar Airport is considered one of Maharashtra’s key infrastructure projects, expected to significantly boost connectivity, investment, and tourism in Pune district.
