Sometimes, life doesn’t give us a warning. One minute you’re buried in work, chasing deadlines, and the next, a single phone call turns your world upside down. That’s what happened to senior software engineer Vivek Naskar, whose moving story about missing his father’s last call has struck a deep chord online. His words have become a gentle but painful reminder that work can wait,  but time with our loved ones can’t.

Techie’s Heartfelt Post on Missing His Father’s Last Call

Vivek shared that he lost his father on October 10. The night before, he had been working late and had missed over twenty calls from his mother. By the time he finally picked up around 8 a.m., he knew something was terribly wrong. He immediately booked the earliest flight home, hoping to make it in time. But despite his rush, he wouldn’t arrive until 7 p.m. Sitting alone at the airport, he felt a storm of emotionsshock, guilt, and disbelief. Hundreds of thoughts raced through his mind, most of which he had no control over.

The pain grew deeper when he scrolled through his phone and noticed something that broke his heart even more, his father had tried calling him too. “We couldn’t talk properly that time. I didn’t call him back. I always thought I had more time,” he wrote. That simple line carried the weight of every unsaid word and every missed moment that now could never be taken back.

Vivek shared that his relationship with his father wasn’t perfect, they sometimes disagreed, and their last few talks were filled with small arguments. Yet, beneath those differences was a bond of love and pride. “He told my mom he was proud of me, not me, though,” Vivek admitted. It was a small reminder of how parents often express love in quiet ways, not always through direct words but through gestures and care that we sometimes only notice too late.

Sitting at the airport with tears in his eyes, Vivek said he was struggling to stay strong. He wasn’t writing to seek sympathy but to let his emotions flow before facing his mother and sister. “I need to keep a tough face when I see them,” he shared, adding that writing helped him process the pain and prepare to say goodbye to his father one last time.

Netizens React

After posting his message on X (formerly Twitter), Vivek’s story went viral, reaching over 1.4 million views. Thousands of people responded with comforting words and shared their own stories of loss and regret. Many said they could relate deeply, missing one last chance to speak to someone they loved, or realising too late how fragile life can be.

One user wrote, “Dear Brother, Deeply sorry for your loss. Your father did see your worth, even if he didn’t say it directly to you. Grief doesn’t need to be carried alone. Sending you quiet strength as you travel to be with your family.”

Another user wrote, “I am sorry for your loss man. Nothing is going to prepare you for the avalanche of emotions. Grieve your own way. There is no right way to grieve. I wish you strength and hope there are loved ones around you while you go through this phase.”

A third user wrote, “Vivek, as a mom myself, I can assure you that your father would not want you to suffer. He would want you to live in joy. We parents do not derive any pleasure from our children feeling sad and or guilty. Treasure the memories and be grateful to him for teaching you how impermanent and precious your times with your loved ones are.”

A fourth user wrote, “I went through the same thing some 6 and a half years back albeit, I was in the same city and reached in 15 minutes but he was gone, it was a cardiac arrest. The flurry of thoughts, the regrets, the what ifs… all remain with me even now. It’s an irreparable loss; believe the fact that he loved you and was so proud of you, that’s what eventually matters. You gotta stay strong bruh!! Condolences!!”
