Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Chief Vinoy Kumar Choubey Shares Cyber Safety Tips: IT Professionals Among Top Fraud Targets
Pimpri, October 15, 2025: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey has issued crucial cyber safety advice to citizens to help them steer clear of rising online scams related to jobs, loans, and payments. Speaking during an online awareness session, he revealed that IT professionals have emerged as the most frequent victims of cyber fraud, often tricked by fake job offers, investment schemes, and phishing links despite their technical expertise.
The interactive session was part of the Cyber Awareness Month initiative launched under the guidance of Maharashtra Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Over 12,000 participants—including students, IT employees, senior citizens, and residents—joined the discussion, raising queries on how to stay protected in the digital age.

Commissioner Choubey explained that cybercriminals typically exploit two key emotions—greed and fear—to deceive people. They tempt victims with promises of high returns or threaten to expose private data to extort money.
Key Safety Tips Shared by the Commissioner
Always verify the company’s official website or email domain, never pay for a job or internship as a genuine company will never ask for any deposit, registration fee or advance for the same..

In such a case, if you have picked the call, do disconnect and call on the concerned Police Unit's Control Room Number to verify the same.#CyberAwarenessTownhall https://t.co/4oWxyy7PkF
- For online transactions: Use two-factor authentication, ensure the site begins with ‘https://’, and avoid public Wi-Fi for payments. Do not save card details online, and never share your CVV or OTP.
- For bank fraud: Never allow others to use your bank account. Fraudsters often request account access to route illicit money—creating so-called ‘mule accounts’. If you receive suspicious funds, report them immediately to the police.
- For loan app scams: Check app reviews, download numbers, and permissions before installing. Authentic apps do not request access to confidential data. Avoid apps not linked to official bank websites.
Choubey also dismissed the growing number of frauds related to ‘Digital Arrests’, clarifying that no such provision exists in Indian law.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Cyber Police have earned praise for their recent operations, including busting a Chinese cyber network that spied on citizens using hacked cloud-linked CCTV cameras and AI tools.
Adding a touch of humour during the session, one user jokingly asked if sending ₹5 to verify a ₹10 lakh lottery offer was safe. Choubey replied wittily, “Sure, try it and let us all know the outcome—but remember, any offer too good to be true is most likely a scam. You’ll probably be 50% scammed!”
