This City in Maharashtra to Host India’s Third-Largest IT Park After Pune’s Hinjewadi
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announces major project to create new employment hub and decongest Pune’s IT sector.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that Solapur will soon host India’s third-largest Information Technology (IT) Park, positioned as an alternative to Pune’s world-renowned Hinjewadi IT Park. The move is aimed at decentralising the state’s growing IT footprint and offering large-scale employment opportunities to youth from Solapur who currently work in Pune and other metro cities.
Speaking at the inauguration of Solapur-Mumbai and Solapur-Bengaluru air services, Fadnavis said, “We will soon develop a world-class IT park in Solapur. This will create new job opportunities for the youth of Solapur who have migrated to Pune for work.”
The Chief Minister also acknowledged that Pune’s Hinjewadi IT Park—currently Maharashtra’s largest and India’s second-largest IT hub—has reached its saturation point, with companies facing challenges due to space constraints. The upcoming Solapur IT Park is expected to ease this pressure while boosting regional development.
According to early plans, the Solapur IT Park will be developed over approximately 1,500 acres of land. District Collector Kumar Ashirwad has already directed Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) officials to identify suitable locations. One proposed site is the Kumbhari Industrial Estate, situated 8 to 10 kilometres from Solapur city, for which 964 hectares of land have been earmarked.
A proposal involving ₹24 crore in land acquisition and infrastructure development had earlier been submitted to the government but remained pending. Officials confirmed that the proposal will now be revived and re-submitted for approval. Land along the Solapur-Pune and Solapur-Vijaypur highways is also being evaluated for potential development.
Industry experts believe that Solapur’s strategic connectivity through its expanding road and air network makes it a promising destination for IT investment. Once completed, the project could place Solapur on India’s technology map alongside Pune, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.
