Operation Kukdookoo In Pune: Wanawadi Police Raid Illegal Cockfight Ring, Six Arrested In Dramatic Crackdown
Pune, October 19, 2025: The Wanawadi Police Station team under Pune City Police has arrested six individuals for organizing illegal cockfights and gambling with money at a public place in Ghorpadi. The accused were also found to be treating the roosters cruelly during the betting games.
According to the police, on October 19, 2025, officers from the Wanawadi Police Station were patrolling the area when constables Gopal Madane and Amol Pilane received a tip-off from an informant. The source reported that several men were conducting cockfights for money behind Impress Garden, near Bungalow No. 2, along a roadside open space in Ghorpadi, Pune.
Acting on the information, a police team reached the location, verified the tip, and conducted a surprise raid. The officers caught six individuals red-handed as they were making roosters fight and placing bets. The accused have been identified as:
Amol Sadashiv Khurde (47), resident of Raviwar Peth, Pune, Mangesh Appa Chavan (55), resident of Bhawani Peth, Pune
Nikhil Manish Tribhuvan (20), resident of Ghorpadi, Pune, Amir Ayub Khan (28), resident of Ghorpadigaon, Pune , Sachin Sadashiv Kamble (42), resident of Bhawani Peth, Pune
- Pranesh Ganesh Param (27), resident of Camp, Pune.
During the raid, police seized six colorful roosters, six carrying bags, three motorcycles, five mobile phones, and ₹2,580 in cash — totaling ₹5,11,880 worth of seized property.
A case has been registered at Wanawadi Police Station under the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act (Section 12B) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (Sections 11(e)(n))**.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Dr. Rajkumar Shinde**, and *Assistant Commissioner of Police (Wanawadi Division) Dhanyakumar Godse*.
The special team included Senior Police Inspector Bhausaheb Patil, Inspector (Crime) Vijaykumar Doke, and officers Umakant Mahadik, Daya Shegar, Mahesh Gadhave, Amol Pilane, Atul Gaikwad, Abhijit Chavan, Yatin Bhosale, Ashish Kamble, Gopal Madane, Balaji Waghmare, Vishnu Sutar, Amol Gaikwad, Vitthal Chormale, Arshad Sayyad**, and *Sujata Phulsundar*.
Police confirmed that strict action will continue against individuals involved in animal cruelty and illegal betting activities across Pune.
