Pune: PMC Undertakes Major Road Work Ahead of Pune’s International Cycling Championship in January 2026
Pune, October 25, 2025: Pune city is gearing up to host a world-class International Cycling Championship from January 19 to 23, 2026, where cyclists from India and abroad will compete on a 75-kilometre stretch across the city.
In preparation for the event, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started extensive road improvement work to bring the selected routes up to global standards The work includes milling (scraping) of existing roads followed by fresh asphalt surfacing to ensure a smooth cycling track.
PMC Chief Engineer (Road Department) Aniruddha Pawaskar has appealed to citizens to cooperate during the ongoing work and to drive slowly and carefully on these stretches. He mentioned that while minor inconvenience may occur temporarily, the efforts are aimed at positioning Pune on the international cycling map.
The corporation has assured that the road works are being carried out swiftly to minimize disruption to daily traffic. Authorities have also urged motorists to follow safety guidelines and remain alert while passing through areas under repair.
Once completed, the upgraded roads will not only enhance the event experience but also benefit regular commuters in the long run.
