Pune: Bhide Bridge Closed For Vehicles Again; Metro Construction Cited As Reason
Pune, October 25, 2025: A key update for Pune residents — the Bhide Bridge has been closed for traffic from yesterday, following temporary openings during the Diwali festival. The bridge had been partially reopened to facilitate smooth travel for commuters during the festive season.
The closure comes as MahaMetro resumes construction work on a new bridge over the river near the Deccan Gymkhana metro station. Authorities have requested citizens to use alternate routes while the work is ongoing.
Construction on the Bhide Bridge began in September, and officials have assured that the remaining work will be completed soon, after which the bridge will reopen fully for traffic. The completed bridge is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the area.
During Diwali, to manage the festival crowd and ensure smooth movement near Peth and Deccan Gymkhana areas, the bridge had been open for vehicles from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. However, from today, it has been closed again.
MahaMetro has advised commuters to use alternative routes via Sambhaji Bridge, Maharshi Vitthal Ramji Shinde Bridge, and Kakasahib Gadgil Bridge and cooperate with the ongoing construction efforts.
The authorities emphasized that once the remaining construction is finished, traffic will resume normally on the Bhide Bridge, providing long-term relief to Pune commuters.
