Student stops officers at Wagle Estate; video of alleged violation goes viral on social media
A surprising incident at Wagle Estate in Thane has sparked outrage after a student confronted traffic police officers riding a two-wheeler with an invisible or broken number plate — just minutes after they had fined him for not wearing a helmet.
According to eyewitnesses, a young man was penalised by traffic policemen for riding without a helmet. However, shortly afterward, he spotted the same officers travelling together on the bike and without a clearly visible number plate.
The student stopped the officers and questioned them about the missing number plate and violation of traffic rules they themselves are entrusted to enforce. He recorded the incident on his phone, capturing the broken or obscured number plate and the duo riding together on the two-wheeler.
The video was later shared on social media, where it quickly gained attention and drew sharp criticism from citizens questioning double standards in law enforcement. Many users demanded action against the officers involved and called for accountability.
This incident has reignited discussions around responsible policing and whether traffic rules should be applied uniformly to citizens and officers alike.
As of now, no official statement has been issued by the Thane Traffic Police.
