Pune: 17-Year-Old Worker Loses Fingers in MIDC Bhosari Factory Mishap
Pune, October 27, 2025: A 17-year-old boy lost four fingers and sustained serious palm injuries after his hand got trapped in a press machine at an industrial unit in MIDC Bhosari on Saturday afternoon. The incident took place around 1.45 pm while the teenager was engaged in a metal bending task, police officials said.
According to the MIDC Bhosari police, the accident occurred when the metal bed of the press machine suddenly came off, trapping the boy’s hand inside. The force of the machine caused severe mutilation to his fingers and palm. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Police have registered a case against the factory owner, Balaji Alure (45), a resident of Bhosari, on charges of negligence and failure to ensure worker safety. Investigations revealed that the unit did not provide standard safety gear or maintain machine safety mechanisms as required.
Officials added that preliminary findings point to serious violations of industrial safety norms. The lack of supervision and protective equipment is believed to have directly contributed to the tragic incident.
Authorities are also examining whether the boy’s employment contravenes child labour laws. The Labour Department has been notified and is expected to carry out a detailed inspection of the factory’s working conditions.
Police have urged all industrial units in the MIDC Bhosari area to strictly comply with safety standards, provide proper training and equipment, and conduct regular machine maintenance to prevent similar accidents in the future.
