Pimpri-Chinchwad, October 28, 2025: The Maharashtra government has granted administrative approval for the much-awaited ‘Namami Indrayani’ river rejuvenation project, marking a significant step toward restoring the sacred Indrayani River — revered by devotees and the Warkari community alike. With this approval, groundwork for the project is expected to begin soon.

The initiative was first announced by BJP MLA Mahesh Landge under his Vision-2020 campaign. It gained traction during the 2019 and 2024 Assembly elections and was pending approvals from the State Environmental and Technical Committees. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took a proactive role in securing these clearances, while former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde extended support in obtaining environmental approval.

The project, with an estimated total cost of ₹1,200 crore, has now received administrative approval for works worth ₹525 crore in its first phase. The official Government Resolution (GR) was issued today.

Environmental Features Incorporated
Environmental organisations and civic representatives contributed to the planning of the river development blueprint. As per the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s master plan, the project includes setting up 60 MLD sewage treatment plants at multiple locations. Additionally, it will feature Water ATMs, public toilets, street furniture, chain-link fencing, compound walls, and a biodiversity park. The project will be implemented under the Central Government’s AMRUT 2.0 scheme.

Bhosari Constituency MLA Mahesh Landge’s Stated:

“The Indrayani River is not just a religious symbol but also a lifeline connecting our culture, environment, and urban health. The state government’s approval is a milestone. We expect work to commence by December 2025. I express my gratitude to Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and the Mahayuti government. This project will rejuvenate the Indrayani River, ensure pollution-free and safe riverbanks, and offer citizens a greener, cleaner riverside experience. We are committed to completing it on time with high quality.”
