Pune: Reservation Lottery For Civic Polls To Be Held On November 11
Pune, October 28, 2025: The State Election Commission (SEC) has announced that a lottery to decide seat reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and women candidates in the upcoming civic polls will be conducted on November 11. The official communication regarding this was sent to all municipal corporations on Monday.
The reservation lottery is a crucial step for election aspirants to plan their campaigns and for political parties to finalize candidates based on the reserved categories.
For the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), elections will be held for 165 corporators across 41 wards. Of these, 40 wards will elect four corporators each, while one ward will elect five. The seat reservations will be determined based on the population distribution of SC, ST, and OBC communities in each ward.
Preliminary estimates suggest that among the 165 seats, 83 may be reserved for women, 44 for OBC candidates, 22 for SC candidates, and 2 for ST candidates.
Prasad Katkar, head of PMC’s election department, said that details on the final number of reserved seats would be announced shortly. “PMC has started preparations for conducting the reservation lottery and is also working on releasing the draft of the ward-wise electoral roll,” Katkar told The Times of India.
According to the SEC’s schedule, PMC will submit a proposal of reserved seats to the commission between October 30 and November 4. The declaration for the lottery will be issued on November 8, followed by the lottery draw on November 11.
The public can submit suggestions and objections regarding the lottery until November 24, and the final list of reservations will be published on December 2.
