Mumbai, October 28, 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that ‘Mumbai Climate Week’, a global conference focused on climate change and environmental sustainability, will be held in Mumbai from February 17 to 19, 2026. The event aims to highlight India’s leadership in global climate action and environmental stewardship.

The ambitious initiative is conceptualized by Project Mumbai and will be organized in collaboration with the Maharashtra Department of Environment and Climate Change and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The announcement was made during a meeting at Mantralaya in the presence of Environment Minister Pankaja MundeBMC Commissioner Bhushan GagraniDepartment Secretary Jayshree Bhoj, and Project Mumbai Founder and CEO Shishir Joshi, among others. The Chief Minister also unveiled the official logo of Mumbai Climate Week during the event.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, CM Fadnavis said that the conference would play a crucial role in balancing development and environmental action, especially in the context of climate challenges faced by developing nations.

The main conference will take place at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai, and will feature a range of public engagement activities across the city — including exhibitions, workshops, film screenings, art events, sports activities, wellness programs, and a Climate Food Festival to promote community participation.

Over 30 countries from the Global South are expected to participate in the summit, which aims to draft a practical climate action framework through collaboration between state leaders, city representatives, industries, NGOs, students, and youth.

Fadnavis emphasized that the Mumbai Climate Week represents India’s commitment to leading with action on climate issues. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, he said that Mumbai and Maharashtra are ready to help shape a fair, innovative, and well-funded climate future for the Global South.

“This is the first time Mumbai will host such an event,” said the Chief Minister, adding that now is the time for collective action. “Every individual, business, and section of society must participate in the campaign against climate change. We must demonstrate actionable ways to mitigate its impact.”

He further stated that after the event, Maharashtra would set climate benchmarks and goals to strengthen action against climate change, urging stakeholders to begin this effort immediately.

The conference will focus on three key themes — Food Systems, Energy Transition, and Urban Resilience — discussed through the lenses of Justice, Innovation, and Finance.

Project Mumbai CEO Shishir Joshi described the event as a “historic milestone” for Maharashtra and India, stating that it would pave the way for sustainable and inclusive climate solutions through citizen participation.

Knowledge partner Monitor Deloitte and organizations such as The Climate Group, India Climate Collaborative, World Resources Institute (India), Eversource, HT Parekh Foundation, UNICEF, Shakti Foundation, Rainmatter Foundation, National Gallery of Modern Art, and the National Service Scheme (NSS) will participate in the initiative.

Also present at the meeting were Ashwini Bhide (Additional Chief Secretary, CMO)Shrikar Pardeshi (Secretary)Kaustubh Dhavse (Chief Economic Advisor to the CM), and Project Mumbai Advisory Board Members Ridham Desai and Jalaj Dani.
