Pune: Residents of Sahyadri Park, located off Salunkhe Vihar Road in Kondhwa, have raised strong objections against an illegal eatery that has become a source of late-night nuisance and lawlessness in their otherwise peaceful neighbourhood. The locals allege that the unauthorized establishment attracts unruly crowds and fosters antisocial behaviour, posing safety and security concerns for families and senior citizens.

According to residents, the food shack—earlier serving Chinese cuisine and now operating as a tandoor outlet—runs illegally without trade or health licenses. Despite repeated complaints made for over a year to the Kondhwa Police and civic authorities, the eatery continues to operate well past midnight, often remaining open until 6 a.m. The establishment is reportedly located in the lane adjacent to ABC Farms on Salunkhe Vihar Road.

Residents allege that the area has turned into a hub for unlawful activities including the illegal sale and consumption of liquor, suspected drug use, and even solicitation. Loud music, honking, and shouting by late-night visitors have further disrupted peace in the area. “We have made several complaints and even reached out through official channels and WhatsApp groups involving the local police beat marshals, but the problem persists,” a resident told Pune Pulse.

The residents also claim that despite occasional police intervention, the shack resumes operations within half an hour of being shut down. This repeated cycle, they say, has eroded public trust in enforcement agencies and emboldened the offenders.

In a detailed letter to the Kondhwa Police, residents have urged immediate and permanent action against the illegal establishment. Their demands include sealing the shack, initiating criminal proceedings under relevant legal provisions, and ensuring continuous patrolling and surveillance in the affected lane.

“We trust that the authorities will treat this as an urgent law-and-order issue and act swiftly to restore safety and peace in our community,” the letter concludes.

When Pune Pulse contacted the Kondhwa Senior Police Inspector Kumar Ghadge about the complaints raised by the residents he assured that action would be taken against illegal activities in the area.
