Pune, October 28, 2025: Farmers from Mhasobachiwadi village in Indapur taluka have successfully transitioned from traditional agriculture to silkworm farming over the past few years. To further strengthen this progressive shift and provide farmers with technical guidance, a one-day workshop on silk production was organized in the village.
The session was presided over by Dr. Mahendra Dhawale, Deputy Director, Directorate of Sericulture, while Dr. Kavita Deshpande, Assistant Director, Regional Sericulture Office, and Sanjay Phule, District Sericulture Officer, were present.
A total of 46 farmers from Mhasobachiwadi and nearby areas participated enthusiastically in the workshop. Dr. Dhawale provided comprehensive guidance on mulberry garden management, fertilizer planning, chawki and adult silkworm rearing, pest and disease control, and silk cocoon marketing, addressing farmers’ queries with practical solutions.
Later, Dr. Dhawale visited the mulberry garden and rearing house of silkworm producer Swapnil Chandgude in Mhasobachiwadi, where he demonstrated techniques for controlling the uzi fly pest. Farmers also suggested promoting group farming and crop insurance schemes to ensure the sustainable growth of the sericulture industry.
