Pune: Railway Launches New Ticket Booking Facility Through Post Offices At These Two Locations. Know More Here
Pune, November 10, 2025: Passengers can now book railway tickets directly from select post offices — a new facility jointly launched by Indian Railways and the Postal Department to make travel planning easier and more accessible.
The initiative eliminates the need to visit crowded railway station counters or rely solely on online booking platforms. This service has been introduced at Uruli Kanchan and Ichalkaranji post offices under the Pune railway division, marking its first phase. Authorities plan to extend this facility to several other post offices in the coming months.
| Post PRS | Location | Forms per Day | No. of Passengers per Day |
|---|---|---|---|
| P825 | Ichalkaranji | 29 | 62 |
| P877 | Uruli | 9 | 19 |
Under the new system, passengers can visit designated post offices and fill out a booking form, providing their Aadhaar number and a valid ID for verification. Tickets will be issued through the Passenger Reservation System (PRS), the same platform used at railway counters. Once the booking is processed, passengers will receive a printed ticket confirming their reservation.
This move is expected to significantly benefit travellers, especially from rural areas, where access to online booking of railway counters is often limited. It will also help reduce long queues at stations, particularly during festive seasons when ticket demand peaks.
In Ichalkaranji, which has a CP code of 825, around 5,000 passengers booked tickets between April and September this year, averaging 28 bookings per day. Meanwhile, Uruli Kanchan (CP code 877) has recorded 1,676 ticket bookings, averaging nine bookings daily.
With post offices now offering ticket booking services and operating round-the-clock, passengers will enjoy greater convenience and accessibility — a welcome relief for many, particularly those in semi-urban and rural regions.
