Vigil Increased At Dagdusheth Ganapati Temple: Security Tightened Across Pune And Mumbai After Delhi Blast
Heightened statewide alert as agencies intensify checks following the Red Fort explosion
A high-intensity explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening has triggered a nationwide security alert, with Maharashtra—especially Mumbai and Pune—moving into an advanced state of vigilance. The blast, which occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, claimed eight lives and left at least twenty people injured. The incident has raised serious concerns about coordinated terror networks operating across multiple states.
Following the Delhi incident, security forces in Maharashtra swiftly increased surveillance at key religious and public locations. One of the primary sites placed under heavy protection is the iconic Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Temple in Pune, a shrine that attracts thousands of devotees daily.
Additional police forces, anti-riot squads, and specialised monitoring teams have been deployed around the temple premises. All visitors are now subjected to enhanced screening, and patrol units have been instructed to maintain round-the-clock presence.
The tightening of security comes amid broader national alerts issued after the Delhi blast. Officials confirmed that multiple vehicles caught fire following the explosion, and forensic teams are still assessing the cause. Preliminary investigation reports indicate that high-powered explosives such as ammonium nitrate were likely used. The case has been transferred to specialised investigative bodies including the NIA and NSG.
In Pune, law enforcement agencies began placing barricades and checkpoints across sensitive zones late Monday night. The Civil Court Metro Station—an important interchange in the city’s network—has also come under heightened protection, with the BDDS and Metro Security Force carrying out detailed inspections to prevent any untoward incident.
Mumbai has likewise increased deployment at transport hubs, crowded markets, religious landmarks, and coastal monitoring points. Security at all airports in Maharashtra has been intensified. At Nagpur Airport, thorough passenger screening has been made mandatory under the updated protocol.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert but avoid panic, emphasising the importance of cooperating with security checks. Intelligence agencies continue to analyse whether the Delhi explosion has links to previously tracked modules operating across northern and western India.
