Pune: Undri Road Near Sanskriti School Closed For Box Culvert Construction; Traffic Diverted Via Hill Green High School
Pune, November 12, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has commenced long-awaited construction work for a box culvert on the nala adjacent to Sanskriti School in Undri. The project, pending for nearly three years due to delays in planning and financial allocation, has finally taken off, promising to enhance road safety and drainage (nala) capacity in the area.
The construction has led to the temporary closure of the road near Sanskriti School, with vehicular movement diverted through the alternate route via Hill Green High School and Bishop’s School. However, the diversion route is reportedly in poor condition, with uneven gravel patches and potholes, particularly near Kumar Princetown and Princetown Royal. Residents have urged the civic body to carry out immediate repairs to ensure smoother traffic movement.
The need for strengthening the nala and bridge was consistently highlighted by Pune Pulse, which had reported on the growing safety concerns due to the narrow and low-lying bridge. The nala had previously witnessed a tragic incident during the monsoon when a delivery boy was swept away by floodwaters, with his body recovered only days later.
Following continuous follow-ups, former Purandar MLA Sanjay Jagtap had sanctioned funds for the project. However, the work did not progress until recently.
A drainage department official confirmed that the new box culvert will not only strengthen the bridge but also elevate the road level to prevent future flooding. “Earlier, only a single pipe carried the nala’s flow. The new culvert will widen the passage and stabilize the structure,” the official said.
The construction is expected to take at least four months to complete. In the meantime, residents are advised to use the alternate route and drive cautiously.
