Progress at the upcoming Hadapsar railway terminal has reached an advanced stage, bringing Pune a step closer to easing the heavy rush at Pune Junction. Work across the site is nearly complete, and with trial movements already underway, the terminal is gearing up to handle regular train operations in the coming weeks.

According to officials from Pune railway division, the redevelopment has achieved roughly 90% completion overall. Platforms are almost ready with 95% of the work done, while the second foot-over bridge has reached 90% completion. All elevators and escalators have been installed, marking a major stride toward making the terminal fully functional.

A senior railway official commented on the progress of passenger amenities: “About 90 percent of the new station building—including booking counters, lounges, and commercial areas—is finished. Parking facilities stand at around 55 percent completion, and the bicycle stand is nearly 80 percent ready.” Once operational, Hadapsar is expected to serve as a satellite terminal, reducing pressure on the overburdened Pune Junction, which has been struggling with rapidly increasing footfall.

From January 26, 2026, two daily services will officially shift their origin and termination points from Pune Junction (PUNE) to Hadapsar (HDP). These include:

Train No. 17629/17630 Hadapsar–Hazur Sahib Nanded Express, scheduled to leave Hadapsar at 21:50 hrs and reach its destination at 04:35 hrs.

Train No. 01487/01488 Hadapsar–Harangul Special, departing at 06:20 hrs and arriving at 20:45 hrs.

With these changes, both trains will permanently discontinue their earlier start and end points at Pune Junction. Additional trains are expected to be shifted gradually as the terminal becomes fully functional.

Local residents have shared varied responses to the transition.

Rahul Deshmukh, a regular traveler, remarked, “For those of us living in the eastern parts of the city, Hadapsar station is far more convenient. It’s going to save us a lot of travel time once every facility opens up.”

Another commuter, Priya Khatmode, offered a different perspective: “Passengers have been relying on Pune Junction for years. The change is fine, but the authorities must ensure better transport links, especially more PMPML buses, to make the shift smoother.”
