Pune: PMC Commissioner Inspects Roads Under ‘Pothole-Free Pune’ Drive; Contractor Fined ₹1 Lakh, Two Engineers Suspended
Pune, November 19, 2025: As part of the ‘Pothole-Free Pune City Campaign’ and ongoing traffic improvement initiatives, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram conducted an on-site inspection of roads from Swargate to Bhavanipeth yesterday.
Following the inspection, the Commissioner issued several key directives:
The inspection covered patchwork and road repair activities at Swargate, Tilak Road, Shukrawar Peth, Rashtrabhushan Chowk, Kashewadi, New Timber Market, and Remoshi Gate. Road-widening work at Shankarsheth Road and Seven Loves Chowk was also reviewed. The Commissioner examined asphalt work and patch repairs near Swargate Kothi and instructed officials to fully develop the roads in the inspected areas to their complete width. He emphasised that necessary improvements would help reduce accident-prone spots and ease traffic flow.

He also directed officials to level stormwater chambers and drinking water valve chambers that were found uneven. The Commissioner appreciated the widening of the chamber near Vardhaman Building at Seven Loves Chowk, which has created additional space for left-turning vehicles by shifting the footpath inward.
Strict action was taken against negligence in pothole-filling work at Warje. The concerned contractor was fined ₹1 lakh, and the Commissioner warned that any further lapses would result in the contractor being blacklisted. Additionally, the assistant engineer and junior engineer responsible for monitoring the work were issued show-cause notices. As their explanations were found unsatisfactory, both officers were suspended.

Expressing displeasure over the newly purchased sensor paver at Hirabaug Asphalt Depot not being put to use, the Commissioner ordered its immediate deployment. He also directed officials to auction scrap material stored at the depot and to clean and utilise the existing buildings at the site.

Officials present during the inspection included Additional Municipal Commissioner (Special) Omprakash Divate, Chief Road Engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar, Superintendent Engineer (Road Department) Ashit Jadhav and Along with engineers and officers from the Road Department.
