Pune RTO Warns Citizens Against Fake E-Challan SMS And WhatsApp Scams
Pune, November 28, 2025: The Regional Transport Office (RTO), Pune, has issued a warning to vehicle owners regarding fraudulent SMS and WhatsApp messages claiming that an e-challan is pending on their vehicle. These fake messages attempt to trick recipients into downloading apps like “Vahun Parivahan” under the pretext of verifying their identity. Complaints from vehicle owners confirm that these messages are entirely fraudulent.
An example of such a fake message reads:
“Dear Vehicle Owner/Driver, This is to inform you that you have been issued a traffic challan. Challan Number: LA21071734311687. To confirm your identity and view the evidence, please install Vahun Parivahan app. The app will provide you with the necessary details. Regards, RTO OFFICE”
RTO Pune clarified that genuine e-challan notifications differ from these messages. The official message from RTO Pune typically reads:
“MH12XXXXXX was found in public place with violation of MV Act, 1988. Kindly see the notice https://rtomh.in/print?id=Gka5JFm and pay fine amount. RTO Pune”
Citizens are advised not to click on any links or download apps mentioned in such fraudulent messages. RTO Pune urges the public to ignore fake messages and report any cybercrime incidents to the Cyber Police Department immediately.
The office also emphasized that vehicle owners should rely only on verified information and refer to official websites for accurate e-challan details.
