Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO Proposes Breath Analyser Ignition System In All Buses To Curb Drunk Driving
Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO Introduces Mandatory Breath Analyser Ignition System In All Buses To Curb Drunk Driving
Pimpri-Chinchwad, December 11, 2025: With the rise in bus accidents caused by drunk driving across Pimpri-Chinchwad and nearby areas, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has initiated a major safety intervention. Authorities have proposed installing a Breath Analyser Ignition System in every bus operating in the region.
The system ensures that if a driver attempts to operate the bus after consuming alcohol, the engine will not start. Some bus owners in the city have already voluntarily installed the device, while the RTO is actively conducting awareness campaigns to encourage wider adoption.
The initiative comes after a recent tragic accident in Hinjewadi, where a bus driven by an intoxicated driver veered onto the footpath, leading to the death of three siblings. The incident reignited discussions on the dangers of drunk driving.
Taking serious note of these repeated cases, the Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO convened a meeting with bus owners and transport associations. The proposal received positive response, and several responsible bus owners have already installed the system at their own expense.
The Breath Analyser Ignition System is an advanced safety mechanism that checks the alcohol level in the driver’s breath before allowing the engine to start. The RTO is now moving swiftly to implement this system across all passenger buses to ensure enhanced road safety.
