Pune Crime: Police Scan 245 CCTV Cameras To Nab Serial Harasser Targeting Women At Night
Pune, December 12, 2025: Pune Airport Police have arrested a habitual offender who had been harassing women for nearly a year. The accused, Sagar Ram Sonawane (22), was traced and arrested after police examined footage from 245 CCTV cameras across multiple areas.
The incident that led to the breakthrough occurred recently in Lohgaon–Ganesh Park, where an unknown biker followed a minor girl and molested her. A case (No. 624/2025) was registered under Indian Justice Code (BNS) Sections 74 and 75, along with POCSO Sections 8 and 12. Repeated incidents in the area had created fear among women.
Recognising the seriousness of the case, Senior Police Inspector Govind Jadhav ordered immediate action. Although the accused had no identifiable leads, the investigation team scanned CCTV footage from Viman Nagar, Vishrantwadi, Dighi, and Bhosari—totaling 245 cameras. Through technical analysis, police identified the suspect and arrested him in a carefully planned trap.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to committing five similar offences within the Airport Police Station limits, and several more in other jurisdictions. His modus operandi involved riding around at night, targeting women or girls alone on deserted or poorly lit roads, harassing them, and fleeing quickly. He deliberately chose routes with minimal CCTV coverage to avoid detection.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil, DCP Somay Munde, and ACP Pranjali Sonawane. The investigation team led by Senior PI Govind Jadhav and Crime PI Sharad Shelke successfully executed the arrest.
