Delhi University Student’s Viral Video Triggers Outrage, Raises Questions Over Harassment Handling
The emotional clip alleging misconduct, threats and administrative pressure has sparked widespread calls for accountability and an impartial investigation.
A viral Instagram video posted by a Delhi University student has ignited intense debate and anger across social media, after she alleged harassment and intimidation by both a professor and her department. The video, which has been widely circulated on Instagram and X, has drawn attention to how harassment complaints are addressed within academic institutions and the power imbalance students often face.
In her reels, the student claimed that after she posted videos accusing a professor of misconduct, she was allegedly summoned by her Head of Department and warned of severe academic consequences if she did not delete the posts. According to her account, she was told, “Delete all the reels you posted against the professor. We can ruin a lot for you,” leaving her fearful about her future at the university.
She further alleged that she was denied her admit card and pressured by classmates to withdraw her complaint. The student claimed that some peers supported the professor in exchange for internal marks, raising concerns about possible misuse of authority and favoritism inside the department.
The clip has triggered widespread outrage online. Hashtags linked to the incident began trending as users demanded immediate action, noting that the university has not yet issued an official statement responding to the allegations. Students, alumni and activists questioned the institutional silence, urging Delhi University to provide protection to the complainant and ensure she faces no retaliation.
Education-rights groups have also stepped forward, highlighting the urgent need for stronger grievance-redressal mechanisms in universities. Several activists have called for an independent and transparent inquiry, arguing that only an external probe can ensure fairness to all parties involved.
As the video continues to spread, the incident has reignited a broader national conversation about how colleges handle harassment complaints, the vulnerabilities faced by students who speak up, and the responsibility of institutions to create safer, more accountable learning environments.
