A social media influencer from Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district was hospitalised in critical condition on Wednesday after allegedly consuming poison during an Instagram Live session, according to reports
Anita Dinram Bishnoi, 32, reportedly took the extreme step after facing continuous trolling and online harassment following a viral video in which she commented on women’s clothing. The incident occurred at her residence in the Shikargarh area of Jodhpur.
According to family members, Anita had been under severe emotional stress in recent weeks due to persistent criticism on social media. She had gained widespread attention after posting a video in which she questioned the trend of wearing short or revealing clothes, triggering strong reactions online.
Before the incident, Anita reportedly shared multiple posts alleging that she was being targeted and defamed by several individuals. In a video posted on social media, she named a number of people and accused them of damaging her reputation. She also referred to a land-related dispute and claimed that she had received threats against herself and her family.
In a Facebook post shared shortly before the incident, she reportedly wrote that people might not see her again after that day, raising concerns among followers and acquaintances.
Her husband, Dinaram, alleged that Anita had been subjected to continuous harassment from some influencers and social media users following the controversy surrounding her video. He claimed that threatening messages had been sent to her through various platforms and that the pressure had taken a serious toll on her mental well-being.
According to family members, Dinaram was away from home when the incident occurred and rushed back after learning about Anita’s social media posts. By the time he reached home, she had allegedly consumed poison and was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
Reports indicate that nearly 1,300 people were watching the Instagram Live session during which the incident allegedly took place. The video has since circulated widely on social media.
Hospital authorities confirmed that Anita was admitted for treatment and remains under medical supervision. Police have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and are gathering preliminary information.
Anita is known for creating content related to Rajasthani culture, social issues and public awareness. She has built a significant following on social media, with more than six lakh followers on Instagram.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are examining all aspects of the case, including the allegations of online harassment made by the influencer and her family.
