Pune: PMC Updates Electoral Rolls Ahead Of Civic Polls, Corrects Details Of Over 92,000 Voters
Pune, December 17, 2025: Facing scrutiny over inaccuracies in the electoral rolls, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed a major correction exercise ahead of the upcoming civic elections, updating voter information for 92,466 electors.
The draft electoral rolls, which were published for public review, listed 35,51,854 voters across the city. During the objection and suggestion period, the civic body received 65,213 applications seeking corrections or raising objections. Of these, 47,063 applications were approved after detailed verification, leading to large-scale updates in voter records.
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said most of the corrections involved changes in residential details, as several voters were earlier shown to be residing away from their actual place of stay. “Each application was carefully scrutinised. We first verified the identity documents and then conducted physical verification of addresses before making any changes,” he said.
According to PMC officials, 18,150 applications were rejected as applicants had submitted incorrect or invalid identity and address proofs. “Wherever discrepancies or fake details were found, those requests were turned down,” the commissioner added.
Official data also indicates that the number of registered voters in Pune currently exceeds the city’s population as recorded in the 2011 Census. While Pune’s population stood at 34,81,359 at that time, the updated electoral rolls as of July 1 this year show an electoral strength of 35,53,854 voters.
Residents who had applied for corrections have been advised to check their names and updated details in the final electoral roll, as individual intimation will not be sent by the PMC. Voter details can be accessed online through the Maharashtra State Election Commission’s voter list portal and will also be available at polling booths, subject to approval by the State Election Commission (SEC).
The municipal commissioner further clarified that around three lakh voters with duplicate entries still remain on the rolls. However, he assured that safeguards are in place to prevent any individual from casting more than one vote during the elections.
