Caught On Camera: MS Dhoni Wearing Watch And Fitness Band Clears Airport Security; Internet Fumes — ‘Why No Frisking For VIPs?’
Former Indian cricket captain and World Cup hero MS Dhoni is no stranger to public attention. Whether it’s on the cricket field or during his travels, the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman is often spotted by fans, especially at airports, where videos and photos of him frequently circulate online. This time, however, one such airport sighting has sparked a heated discussion on social media about “VIP culture” and unequal security practices.
A recently surfaced video shows MS Dhoni arriving at an airport with his wife Sakshi and other companions. In the clip, Dhoni is seen walking towards the security checkpoint carrying a backpack, which he places on the screening tray as required. What caught the attention of netizens, though, was what followed next.
According to viewers, Dhoni was allowed to pass through the security check while still wearing his shoes, a wristwatch on one hand, and a fitness band on the other. For most regular passengers, such accessories are usually required to be removed and placed in trays before undergoing body screening. Many travellers are also asked to step aside, rejoin the queue, or go through additional checks if they forget to remove these items.
In the viral video, security personnel appear relaxed and are even seen smiling as Dhoni walks through the checkpoint without being asked to remove his accessories or undergo visible frisking. This contrast in treatment has raised eyebrows, with several users questioning whether security rules are applied equally to everyone.
The clip was shared on social media platform X by the handle “@WithLoveIndiaa,” tagging authorities such as CISF and the Airports Authority of India. The post questioned the purpose of strict security protocols if celebrities and VIPs are seemingly exempt from them. The user pointed out that an ordinary citizen would likely be stopped, asked to remove accessories, and sent back for re-screening—something that did not appear to happen in Dhoni’s case.
As the video gained traction, debates erupted online. Some users criticised what they called “double standards” and “fake security,” arguing that wealth and fame should not influence safety procedures meant for everyone’s protection. Others, however, defended Dhoni, suggesting that security agencies may have separate protocols for high-profile individuals or that the clip may not show the full process.
While the video continues to circulate and opinions remain divided, the incident has once again brought the spotlight on the long-standing issue of VIP culture in India. Whether this was a genuine security lapse or a misunderstood moment, it has certainly made many travellers reflect on their own airport experiences and question how uniform security checks really are.
