Pune: Awareness Programme Held in Keshavnagar–Mundhwa Amid Recent Sightings Of Leopard
Pune, December 22, 2025: In response to repeated leopard sightings reported over the past few days in the Keshavnagar–Mundhwa area, an awareness programme was organised on December 21 to educate residents about safety and precautionary measures. The initiative was held at Konark Riva Society and Kumbharwada in Keshavnagar, Mundhwa, with the objective of reducing panic and promoting informed coexistence with wildlife.
The awareness session was conducted by Srinath Chavan and Adesh Desai, who provided detailed information about leopard behaviour, movement patterns, and the reasons behind their presence in urban and semi-urban areas. Residents were guided on essential safety precautions, including avoiding movement in isolated areas at night, keeping society premises well-lit, securing waste disposal areas, and promptly reporting sightings to the forest department.
Approximately 80 to 90 residents attended the programme, showing strong community participation and concern for safety. Forest Guard Priya Aaken from the Forest Department was also present and addressed the gathering.
She reassured residents that the department is monitoring the situation closely and urged citizens to cooperate with officials by sharing accurate information and avoiding rumours.
The programme was appreciated by residents, who said such initiatives help build awareness, reduce fear, and ensure preparedness during wildlife-related incidents in residential areas.
