Pune Traffic Police Announce Road Diversions on MG Road for Christmas Festivities
Pune: Traffic Changes Proposed At RTO Chowk; Citizens Invited To Submit Objections Till June 6
Christmas celebrations in Pune are expected to draw large crowds to MG Road and surrounding Camp areas, prompting the Pune Traffic Police to implement temporary traffic diversions. Authorities aim to manage the evening rush, ensure public safety, and provide smooth vehicular movement during the busy festive period.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Himmat Jadhav, issued an order under the Motor Vehicles Act. The traffic changes will take effect from 7:00 PM on December 24 and 25, 2025, and will remain in force until the crowds disperse.
Traffic Diversions to Note:
1. From Y-Junction to MG Road: Vehicles moving from Y-Junction towards MG Road will be stopped at 15 August Chowk. Alternative routes via Qureshi Masjid and Sujata Mastani Chowk will be available.
2. From ISKCON Mandir Chowk: Traffic heading towards Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Statue and Arora Towers will be diverted to the right at SBI House Chowk and routed through Teen Tofa Chowk towards Lashkar Police Station.
3. From Volga Chowk: Vehicles travelling towards Mohammed Rafi Chowk from Volga Chowk will be rerouted straight along East Street Road, leading to Indira Gandhi Chowk.
4. From Indira Gandhi Chowk: Traffic heading towards Mahaveer Chowk will be redirected via Lashkar Police Station Chowk.
5. From Sarbatwala Chowk: Vehicles moving towards Mahaveer Chowk from Sarbatwala Chowk will take the diversion along Taboot Street Road.
Traffic police teams from both local police stations and the traffic control branch will be deployed throughout Pune Camp and nearby areas to manage crowds and ensure safety. Emergency service vehicles, including ambulances, fire tenders, police, and military vehicles on duty, will not be affected by these restrictions.
MG Road and its surrounding streets, popular for food joints, shops, and churches, experience heavy footfall during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day evenings every year. These diversions are designed to ease congestion and provide a smoother travel experience for both residents and visitors.
Commuters are advised to plan their travel ahead, follow diversion instructions, and use alternative routes to avoid delays while enjoying the festive celebrations safely.
