Captured on Dashcam: Drunk Creta Driver Drags Royal Enfield 500 Metres In Bengaluru Christmas Eve Horror
Biker injured in chain collision on Outer Ring Road; sparks fly as car speeds away, driver later thrashed by public
A shocking drunken-driving incident on Christmas Eve in Bengaluru left a motorcyclist injured and stunned commuters watching as a Royal Enfield was dragged for nearly half a kilometre under an SUV, with sparks flying across the road.
The incident occurred around 7.15 pm on December 24 on the Outer Ring Road near the Sumanahalli flyover. Police said a Hyundai Creta, allegedly driven under the influence of alcohol, rammed into a motorcycle from behind, triggering a chain collision involving multiple vehicles.
The biker, identified as Rohit S, was riding from Sumanahalli flyover towards Nagarabhavi Circle when the SUV struck his Royal Enfield. The impact flung him onto the road, causing injuries to his chest, legs and hands. He was later rushed to hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.
While Rohit was thrown clear, his motorcycle got lodged under the front of the SUV. Instead of stopping, the driver continued to speed away, dragging the Royal Enfield for nearly 500 metres. Dashcam footage from a vehicle behind captured sparks flying beneath the car as the mangled bike scraped along the road surface.
According to police, the SUV went on to hit at least two more vehicles during the escape, prompting other motorists to chase it down. The driver was eventually intercepted by members of the public, who broke a window after he allegedly refused to step out and locked himself inside the car. He was pulled out, assaulted by the crowd and then handed over to the police.
The driver has been identified as Srinivasa KV, 38. Police confirmed that he was allegedly driving in a rash and negligent manner and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. His vehicle has been seized.
A case has been registered at Kamakshipalya Traffic Police Station under Sections 281 (rash driving on a public way) and 125(a) (acts endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police have also booked him for drunk driving and said they will recommend cancellation of his driving licence.
A senior police officer said the incident once again highlights the dangers of drunk driving and the serious risk it poses to innocent road users, especially during festive periods when traffic violations tend to spike.
