The 27-year-old victim suffered facial burn injuries and is undergoing treatment at Sassoon General Hospital; police say the couple had frequent arguments over household issues.
A domestic dispute in Pune’s Kothrud area escalated into violence on December 31 after a woman allegedly threw boiling tea on her husband’s face, causing serious burn injuries. Police have registered a case against the woman and are investigating the incident.
According to the complaint filed at Kothrud Police Station, the victim is a 27-year-old man who works as a security guard with a private company. He and his wife, aged 23, have been married for around two years and live in the Paud Road area.
Police officials said the couple had been having frequent arguments over household matters for several days. On Wednesday morning, the man was reportedly asleep when his wife woke him up around 10.30 am. An argument followed after she accused him of pretending to sleep.
During the altercation, the woman allegedly picked up a vessel containing boiling tea from the stove and threw it on her husband’s face. The hot liquid caused burn injuries, particularly to his face, following which he sought medical help.
The injured man is currently undergoing treatment at Sassoon General Hospital. After receiving medical attention, he approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.
Based on the complaint, Kothrud police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials said statements are being recorded and medical reports are being examined to determine the extent of the injuries.
A senior police officer said the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken based on evidence and witness statements.
