Pune Airport Introduces Green Channel To Cut Customs Exit Time for International Passengers
Pune, January 3, 2025: International passengers arriving at Pune International Airport can now expect a faster and smoother exit with the introduction of a new Green Channel by the Customs Department. The initiative allows eligible travellers to bypass routine customs checks if they are not carrying dutiable or restricted items, reducing exit time by an estimated 40 to 50 minutes.
The move marks a shift from mandatory checks for all international arrivals to an intelligence-based screening system. Under the new process, customs officials will carry out physical inspections only if a passenger is flagged through specific inputs or appears suspicious. Earlier, limited manpower and space constraints often led to long queues and delays at the arrival terminal.
The Green Channel is meant for passengers carrying personal belongings, permitted gifts, or duty-free items within prescribed limits. Travellers opting for this channel must self-declare that they are not carrying excess gold or jewellery, foreign currency beyond allowed limits, commercial goods, or alcohol and cigarettes above permissible quantities. Any misuse of the facility may invite penalties under customs laws.
Additional Commissioner Of Customs, Pune Rahul Galande said the initiative is aimed at improving passenger convenience and aligning Pune airport’s procedures with global standards. With international travel expected to rise in the coming months, the Green Channel is expected to significantly ease congestion and enhance the overall arrival experience for passengers.
