Customer’s post about the delivery partner’s quiet dignity and work ethic strikes a chord online

A Swiggy delivery rider’s simple request for a good rating, instead of a cash tip, has touched many hearts on social media after a customer shared the experience online. The incident involved a delivery partner who arrived to deliver an Instamart order with his young child sitting on the bike.

According to the customer’s post on X, the rider’s effort immediately stood out. Seeing the delivery partner balancing work and parenthood, the customer offered him a cash tip as a gesture of appreciation. However, the rider politely declined the money and said that all he wanted was a good rating for his service.

The customer explained that tipping digitally after delivery is not possible on the Swiggy app, particularly for Instamart orders. While customers can sometimes add a tip during checkout, there is no option to tip once the order is completed. In this case, the customer had intended to show respect and appreciation for what he described as an honest and hardworking father.

Sharing the incident online, the customer wrote that he usually prefers to tip directly. “He politely refused the tip. He just wanted a good rating for his service. Unfortunately, there’s no option to tip after delivery on the Swiggy app,” the post said. He added that Swiggy customer support confirmed that post-delivery tipping is currently unavailable for Instamart orders.

The customer also pointed out a common issue faced by users. Sometimes, delivery partners suggest that cash tips are more useful for expenses such as petrol. However, if a customer does not have cash at that moment, there is no way to add a tip later through the app. He clarified that the gesture was not about supporting or opposing tipping culture, but about acknowledging sincerity and hard work.

The post triggered a wide range of reactions from netizens. Some users felt that refusing a tip was a matter of self-respect and should not be forced. Others discussed the need for delivery apps to introduce a feature that allows tipping after service, especially in cases where customers want to reward exceptional effort.

Several users shared alternative ways to show appreciation, such as offering water, juice, or small acts of kindness. Others highlighted that ratings matter significantly for delivery partners, as they directly impact their work opportunities on platforms.

The incident has sparked a broader conversation about dignity of labour, app limitations, and the small gestures that can make a difference in the lives of delivery workers who often work long hours under challenging conditions.
