Pune: In a tragic road accident reported on Tuesday afternoon, two young women lost their lives after an Eicher truck rammed into their two-wheeler near a petrol pump opposite Dhangar Baba Temple. The incident occurred at around 1:15 pm and has raised concerns over road safety in the area.
According to preliminary information, the Eicher truck was being driven by Jitendra Nirale, a resident of Khalghat in Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh. The truck allegedly hit the two-wheeler from behind, leading to a severe impact.
The victims have been identified as Rutuja Pandurang Shinde (24), a resident of Punawale, Pune, and Neha Pandurang Shinde (20), a resident of the same locality. They were travelling on a scooter at the time of the accident.
Both women sustained critical injuries and succumbed to them on the spot, officials said. Local residents rushed to help and informed the police immediately after the incident.
The police reached the scene, conducted a preliminary investigation, and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. Further legal action is being initiated, and authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident, including possible negligence and speeding.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and improved safety measures on busy city roads.
